00126 SHARED IDENTITY

When planning my painting with a mass of flowers, I saw in my mind two very different paintings from the past.  The first came from Pierre-Auguste Renoir who quipped, “I just let my brain rest when I paint flowers.”  His "Chrysanthemums" provided the idea for soft, blurring edges when seen from a distance.  The second idea seemed more distant, but the composition led me to what I produced.  Eugène Delacroix painted "Liberty Leading the People" in 1830 to commemorate the uprising that toppled King Charles X of France.  The strong triangular design has long been a classic.  Flower Power anyone?  Shared Identity is a 24” x 18” (61 x 46 cm) oil on canvas, $900.
